WHAT IS A DOULA
Skills & Proficiencies
CM
"What is a doula?" A doula is a non-medical professional trained to give support during pregnancy, childbirth and in the period shortly after giving birth, to help you achieve a positive birth experience. This support isn't limited to just you, who is pregnant, but can extend to your partner so that they can focus on being there for you.
We do this by providing physical, emotional, and informational support and we advocate for you to have the right to make informed decisions about your body and baby. While your doula does not speak to the medical staff on behalf of you, we provide a platform for your wishes to be heard.
Why a Doula
I am here to encourage, re-teach and normalize the consistent nurturing and nourishment of mothers from generation to generation. It really is true that it takes a village to mother the mother! Each of our individual journeys in our own births into motherhood profoundly revealed how much we did not know and how much of the birthing and recovery experience largely remained unspoken from generation to generation.
It was within the community of our friendship that we learnt that through each of our experiences were unique, no mother should be alone in their journey to full wellness. Doula Care is designed and dedicated to the wellness and well-being of Mothers. Our services, products and content are carefully crafted to respond to the lack of support for newborn mothers and mothers who are redefining their well-being in motherhood.
Welcome to our village!

WHO AM I -
CM
CARE Doula
I unknowingly set out on the path of supporting mothers many years before I knew I was actually doing it . I am a mother of three beautiful children and it is through having them that I decided to look into Doula training (also been recognised by a midwife for what I had to offer) so that I could support other mothers at their most vulnerable time.
Though I was well-supported by my village when I had my children, and continue to have that support, I also realised that this isn’t true for many mothers, I find that our new culture has left us moving away form our village / our people and for one or another reason.
Doula's have now stepped into assist with this transition “It takes a village to mother the mother.” I believe that the more we seek out the 'old' traditions of taking care of our mothers, the closer we return to balance and wellness for mothers. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
“Continuous labour support seems like one of the most important and basic needs for birthing people”
— Rebecca Dekker, Evidence Based Birth
WHAT IS MY PHILOSOPHY ABOUT BIRTH?
Defined as "a particular system of philosophical thought" a philosophy is not static.
As we learn and experience, we add to our knowledge and understanding of that system. Birth is truly a miraculous event. As a doula I bear witness to it each birth I attend. Each birth is it's own and each family's experience different.
As a mother I have experienced changes within my own birth philosophy and as a doula of families for multiple births, I have seen birth philosophies evolve over time. For example, as a first time mother you have never experienced birth before, but as a mother of three your perspective changes.
Society's birth philosophies are fed to us through movies, social media, shared stories, & family's experience. As a soon to be parent, you might not have stopped to consider what your personal birth philosophy might be.
As you learn about pregnancy, labor & birth, & parenting...take time to ask yourself some questions.
Many mothers create their own philosophies as the months of pregnancy go by. The very transformational time of pregnancy and birth provide parents with opportunities to grow and become the parents that they have imagined themselves to be.
Doulas are by your side, supporting you no matter what your birth philosophy may be. They can help you explore these questions and more. And if you're craving information, a doula provides research-based information to help guide you on your journey of discovery.
A doula can help listen to you and support you as you come to know your own feelings about pregnancy and your upcoming birth.
Our advice is this:
Be yourself.Don't let Facebook, family, Hollywood, or the book your friend lent you last week decide your philosophy for you.
Ask yourself what you really feel about giving birth and then surround yourself with the people and tools that support you in that philosophy.

WHAT MY CLIENTS HAD TO SAY
I went in for an induction and Claurette kept in contact with me throughout the night and day. As soon as I felt the contractions becoming very sore I called Claurette. She was truly amazing. She was a real rock and I could not have gotten through that day without her. My baby didn't dilate and after talking about our options with our gynea we decided to go in for a ceaserian. Claurette did not try to convince us of any decision or pursued us in any way. She said this and this only. ' your baby knows how it needs to come out '. Which was proven to be true as he wasn't dilating because the cord was wrapped around his neck and foot. Claurette is a very knowledgeable doula who shows compassion and kindness and really helps you enjoy your birthing experience. I highly recommend her !
I decided quite late in my pregnancy that I wanted a doula. This meant that I had very little time to find one and left me feeling extremely nervous about the whole situation.
Claurette was amazing from the first time I met her. She made me feel calm and at ease and I knew immediately that I wanted her to be my doula.
She was so caring and even gave me such good advice about my older child. At the Hospital she stayed by my side and again her calming voice and personality really put me at ease. After my baby was born she helped me with breastfeeding and a few weeks later came home to check how the baby and I were doing and assisted again with my breastfeeding concerns.
I would definitely recommend Claurette
When it finally happened our birth ideas was simple and dreamy.
In reality, my birth story was pretty different. A high leak in my water caused me to go into labor early. I had several OBGYN working on me when I got admitted. I was not able to have my dream birth. But instead, I barely remember seeing my son for the first time.
I remember the pain as they ripped and tugged at my body. I remember trying to catch a glimpse of him once they removed him from my belly. I remember the dr saying she needs to go to theatre now. Then I remember waking up in a strange room, my husband and son nowhere to be seen. I remember seeing Claurette standing at the nurse’s station and realizing that I was in ICU recovery. I remember her coming over and her holding my hand, telling me that my baby boy was ok breathing on his own and beautiful. I remember her telling me that my husband and family was with him in NICU. I remember feeling a profound sense of loss that I had missed it all. But having Claurette there, guiding me, advising me and standing strong when I could not. She was by our side, keeping me updated and reassuring me of his progress. She made me feel that if I could not be with him, there was someone like minded and strong watching over him. She is amazing at what she does. And the love she has is phenomenal. You will know that having Claurette by your side when things that are even unexpected, she remains strong, focused, and handles all of it with love and understanding.
Thank You Claurette
